Interior and exterior refurbishment for a London nursery.
The Brief
Wanstead Nursery, London.
Set in the heart of Wanstead, London, this Nursery offers childcare and education to children aged 3 months up to 5 years. Providing activities from story time and painting to gardening and outdoor play. Due to the facilities being in constant use, they were struggling to complete the refurbishments needed for both the interior and exterior of the building. Their aim was to create more office space, landscape the garden and generally modernise the nursery in order to maintain and expand the valuable services they supply.

We wanted to help this nursery continue to provide the great work they deliver to their community. For minimal distribution to the staff and students, we chose a phased approach to make the necessary updates. We began by reviewing the layout of the interior walls to remove any redundant spaces and added an extension at the rear of the building. This would create a bigger, more inviting space for the children as well as extra storage. With this new layout, we could begin essential building work and bespoke features including:
- Re-work of internal walls
- New plumbing and bathrooms
- Adding cubicle dividers and baby-changing units
- Fully functioning kitchenette
- Flooring throughout
- Garden levelling and landscaping
- New electrics and light fittings throughout
- Double-glazed windows
The Outcome
We were delighted to hand over a bright and positive space for everyone to enjoy.
The new extension provides a bigger floorplan for additional storage, office space and modernised classrooms. While a fresh coat of paint along with modern facilities instantly updated the room, providing a fun and inviting atmosphere. This now continues into the renovated garden which has been levelled out for safety, but it also provides a brilliant garden play area.
